About the Project

In 2008 Michel Lawrence’s exhibition and book titled All of Us was  launched at Melbourne’s Federation Square by the Victorian Premier John Brumby.

All of Us showcased photos of 250 Australians who were not born in Australia but who had decided to make Australia their home. In 2009 the

Michel Lawrence

exhibition was launched in Delhi by the Premier, then travelled farther afield across India.

Following the success of this exhibition, the Australian High Commission in India commissioned Michel to design and shoot a series of photographs dedicated to illustrating the success of the Indian diaspora across Australia.

From the Sikh community in Woolgoolga who first settled in Australia in the 1940s, to talented musicians, to highly qualified professionals, to gifted students, the Indian community in Australia embraced the idea and generously welcomed Michel into their homes, offices, churches and temples.

The result is Indian Aussies, depicting a vibrant, harmonious and in many cases, prosperous community, who now call themselves Aussies.
